Last Mile Transport Innovations

Join Autotech Council members for this public meeting on Last Mile transportation. We'll hear from a number of the providers of ideas and products, see a number of demos, and even get a chance to ride on a number of these devices. These ½-day, executive-format agendas highlight a few larger vendors who are leading the segment forward and bring dozens of undiscovered companies to the stage as well.

Last Mile transportation solutions are things like scooters, bicycles, Segways, and other devices that facilitate last mile human transport to a transit hub or collection point. The segment is increasingly relevant because of a few converging trends:

  • Car sharing and ride sharing
  • Bike sharing
  • Improved battery power density
  • The resurgence and fresh ideas in urban planning, brought on by smart connected cities.
  • A growing number of bicycle and pedestrian pathways and lanes.
  • A surge in creativity around balancing scooters, and electric mobility devices
  • Traffic congestion, congestion zones, pedestrian-only zones
  • Pollution reduction efforts
  • PRT Personal Rapid Transit

The "last mile" problem has historically been one for public transit, in that it has been hard to get people into public transit when there is no (non-walking) solution for the last link at both ends of the trip. The problems for the transit industry have generally benefitted the auto industry. The best solution from the last century was to add bike racks to buses. Can planners and inventors find better solutions in this century?

In our meeting on Last Mile transportation, we'll hear from a number of the providers of ideas and products, see a number of demos, and even get a chance to ride on a number of these devices.
